Overview

Originally formed in 1966 as an Infirmary for sugar plantation families, Hamakua Community Health Center now offers a full range of primary healthcare services. With 35 staff members in two locations on Hawaii’s Big Island, Hamakua offers medical, laboratory, and prescription medication programs for the 8,000+ residents in the Hamakua District.

Challenge

As the organization grew, it relied on both in-house and outsourced services to develop and maintain its IT infrastructure. “Our Business Operations Director knew a little bit about computers, explained Susan Hunt, Executive Director. ““We contracted with an outside company for other issues, piece-meal.”

Without consistent IT planning, the resulting computer network was unreliable and inadequate for Hamakua’s growing needs.

“We did a bunch of research and talked to a lot of people and met with different companies. We selected Intech because of your customer service orientation, quick response, and coming up with a plan … plus the different options in pricing,” said Hunt. “What we have received in return for our investment has been well worth it.”
